An admission, and some news.

I have engaged in self-deprecation like it was a virtue and concealed self-confidence like it was a vice. I have colluded in other women's self-loathing. I have sat with very over-weight women and lamented my own relatively modest girth. I have complained of petty imperfections which may have sewn the seeds of similar anxieties in the minds of others. I have tried to comfort women about their trivial flaws by arguing that mine are worse.

Incidentally, I've decided to start posting these sorts of snippets here instead of on StumbleUpon. A company that won't devote enough resources to accessibility does not deserve my content. I plan to import my links to Diigo and tag accordingly there, while commenting on pages here. For those of you coming from SU (if you're reading me), I'll still follow you through Google Reader.

On Australia day.

The way I felt today is best summed up by a comment in Australia Day: ‘Speak English’:

I fully support the proposal to change the date. Cronulla Riots shame aside, it totally rubs the issue of colonisation in the faces of Aboriginal people.
It doesn’t even hold any symbolic meaning for me as an Australian of convict heritage. My ancestors were the homeless, the poverty-stricken result of the industrialised age, who were shipped here as slave sto help build the new british empire. Fuck celebrating that.

Nationalism just freaks me out. How and why the fuck would you want to celebrate the existence of an oppressive state founded upon and enjoying the benefits of colonisation? Why on Earth would I want to celebrate with the masses that I don't even trust to not vote for Abbot?

(Oh, and don't even get me started on the SLASH = EVIL wank around DW.)

An addition!

I have a Diigo now. I'm even using it, but would love a bigger network of fannish peeps to share with. Some of my links (especially any of the ones under the sex tag—these are my porn-porn recs) may not be appropriate for work, and I'm looking in to how to indicate warnings and ratings on the fic. I'm also importing things as I go from the AO3, LJ and DW :).

Alas, some dot-points.

The hug between Hart and Michaels is about as sincere as the hug that the strippers give me when I walk into the club.

Ah, Jack, such naivety—the man-hugging was awkward, yes, but awkward for a reason.

Cornette amused me too. Wrestling podcasts are oddly interesting.

If it suits you, arrange a playlist however you prefer and then allow it to randomly select a song in answer to each question.

I popped open Rhythmbox on shuffle. Incidentally, if you want a copy of these songs, just let me know :). I also might go and put in some lyrics, at a later stage.

Cut for verbosity. )

I was supposed to be filling out a meme, but in my usual fashion, got distracted:

IAmJericho: @mikethemiz Merry Chrizmiz everybody!!!

Um. Yeah. So, is that a confession? Or a subtle Jericho hint?

AO3, the OTW, and...

I'm stuck! I've got one AO3 invite, and nobody to give it to (the first went to [info]phinnia, for the curious)! If you would like an account, just comment here. I'd like to say, like [info - personal] enigel, I'd prefer to give it to somebody that isn't participating in Yuletide this year, and is willing to upload their fics and/or use the Archive a lot! So, if you think you fulfill such criteria, offer yourself up below!

I will fucking picket sign if Hogan ruins TNA—it's been built by this man, and goddamnit, it deserves to be loved, not turned into the next WCW.

Anyway, this just proves that wrestling is a real fandom (I'm always on the look out for evidence). We get angry too, which seems to be synonymous with fannishness.

Beauty and pain; travelling and OTW stuff.

You know how I love shoes? Well, our relationship is fracturing—going to Box Hill and walking around in ballet flats is apparently too much for my uncirculatory feet. Hrmph. Situation analysis: hopeless. I've got open wounds on both little toes, an infected big toe, and the back of my heels are rubbed raw.

I guess I'd best be going to my GP and telling him to put diabetes (controlled by diet) on my medical records, so I don't have to pay ~$100 to get them fixed up.

In other news, the OTW officially raised US $15,573 from their last drive. Although sometimes I feel a bit alienated from the rest of fandom, I'm incredibly proud of the sheer amount of monies we raised! WHEE! We are also looking for fresh blood people for the Volunteers, Wiki, Translations and Finance committees.

Well, maybe not so alienated, since [info]guenhwyvarsmind added her Neon Midnight archive to the AO3!

Support was put on hold for my mini-break, but I did notice with a great amount of pride that the team jumped into some juicy reports, and has got the swing of things now! Now, to do the minutes for our next meeting :).

So, a dude on SU (a very cool dude if I must say so) is asking me why I like wrestling.

I have no answers, other than:
Squee for Miz/Morrison hugging.

and SQUEEE1111 *flail* DED.

Obviously, this is the part where you take me away from the computer. Oh, and go consider the Sex Positive Fic-athon! This little fan isn't into the whole rape/torture thing in fandom, although I've seen it done well and often.

Regarding Smackdown (13/10/09).

On the subject of gimmick infringement, did anybody catch Punk's little “bang bang” after he attacked Rey? I do wonder what Mick has to say about that.

  • A quick post!

    • The OTW is in the middle of its biggest fund-raising drive in its history! As you can remember, we own the god-damn servers, but servers cost money and require maintenance to keep them running happily.

    • Relatedly, we also have a volunteer drive going on! If you've got the time, and feel like you can contribute, please do! I'm so sick of being the only wrestling fan involved. Tres embarrassing. It boggles people like [info - personal] zooey_glass that I have no SF as a fandom!</user>

    • I'm also eagerly awaiting to go to Melbourne on the 30th, which shall be my compensation for the worst Bairnsdale trip ever earlier in August. I shall be staying with a mate, and I plan to introduce him to fandom in movie form (I've more luck with Bond than wrestling, imho).

Alas, I am fidgety, and should really take my meds and settle for bed—but not without sharing The Style Rookie, who is rocking my socks off (in a completely non-fandom way, for a change!). Long story short, she's a gal who knows her fashion, and knows how to present it. I'm guilty of Mafia hair!

One of my favourite postings of hers is the coverage of the Issey Miyake collection by Dai Fujiwara, which I think shows off her wit and aptness as a fashion blogger.

Fuck, I miss being 13 and having endless energy for blogging. My StumbleUpon cries out for inspired postings.

But would it break the no-blading rule, Bad News?

This will not be the last of Cena-Orton. In order to make their next meeting even bigger they will wrestle each other on a tightrope tied between two skyscrapers with a pool of electric eels, sharks, and alligators below. Orton will get to use nun chucks and Cena a battle axe.
They keep making each new Orton-Cena match more "dangerous" and add stipulations hoping we'll still be interested and buy the PPV. But the bottom line is the same. It's still Cena vs. Orton.

Ah, well. My entire Raw night was saved because my man won his first title. Hilariously, I did orgasm toes when he got the pin :D.

In addition:
OTW: can has servers

  • Yippee! I am on (barring no objections) my way to making my little feet fill chair shoes in the Support subcommittee of AD&T! SO EXCITED! If anybody has experience with the AO3 or wants to gain some in the hope of working on Supporting (teehee) other users, you're totally welcome to let us know.

  • Also, in wrestling fancan (fanon/canon mesh): Raven/Stevie twitterings. *giggle*

  • For yet more fandom: I'm going to Fanlore a few new gems from Geocities: In Defence of Wrestling Slash, mako's tank, naobliss’s rec page, and a few others (links forthcoming because they are on my laptop).

  • I keep spending money on PWG DVDs (eep, sorry RoH—I racked up a big shopping list and stopped myself), when I should be tracking down the Motherpeace Tarot. I really need to do another tarot reading for somebody, though; weirdly, all this anxious energy (a bad word for a CFS sufferer, I know) seems to want to be channelled. Test subjects, anybody?

  • Finally, a happy belated birthday to [info - personal] zooey_glass and [info]parenthetical. Many happy returns!

A week is a relative term! Actually, [info - personal] tree put it best: I was stymied for what to share. I return with a Firefox extension of infinite usefulness. I’ve also got a post planned out mentally that’ll amuse some of you :). Well, it should interest most of you; as it's a good example of why wrestling slash a legitimate fannish enterprise.

Scrapbook lets you actively capture entire websites and from there, links/images/documents on the page. It lets you write notes and highlight elements on the pages you capture as well, as well as have ‘galleries’ of scrappings. It’s the fan’s ultimate tool, really; almost made for capturing fic and organising it. I may have been capturing Geocities sites with it for my own archival—it's a distinct possibility.

  • Video: The Mario Movie: Game Over—where's the fandom for it? Luigi's (pseudo-mobster) rage just cinched it for me :). Warnings for language and drug-related themes.
